Representations of Femininity Homework

When you watch your nightly television shows (e.g. Home and Away, Neighbours, Big Bang Theory etc) consider how some of the women are presented. (Only has to be one show)
Who is the main female character? What makes them successful as a woman?

What attributes of femininity are presented positively or negatively? How is this shown?

You should respond in a brief paragraph and publish to your own blog.

Homework Week 1

DUE BY THURSDAY (07/02/2013)

On your blog post an extended response (at least 150 words) that describes your chosen character.

You may choose one of the characters that we have looked at in class OR your own female character. However if you choose your own they must be from a current TV show.

You should use the dot points written in class to guide your writing, making sure that you address ALL dot points. You can find these on Blackboard by going to:

Units of Work/From fairy princesses to professional powerhouses and everything in between: we explore the representations of women and femininity./Representations of Women in Popular Culture/How To Analyse Representations in the Media/Questions to Consider When analysing the representation of Women in text

You must choose TWO other people’s work to comment on giving them one positive comment and explaining something they could improve/add.

Welcome to Year 10 English

This blog will let you know everything that is happening in our class as well as any worksheets you might need.

The blog will also include any homework activities for you to complete and upload onto your own English Blog. If you are away from school, you should also check the blog to see whether the work from the day has been posted for you to catch up on.

All work that is completed for homework must be done on a word document so that you can cut and paste your work onto your blog for teacher monitoring or it can simply be typed directly into your blog.
You will be required to comment on at least two other people's blogs every week. This will give you an understanding of different working styles and allow you to extend your knowledge. These comments will be available for all to see, therefore, you must make sure that you are using constructive criticism and speaking as professionals to each other. Your comments will also be available for all teachers and your parents to see at any time.
When you comment on each post you should aim to include something that the poster has done well and something that they could improve on.
For example you might write: I really like the way that you have explained the theme in a detailed way. Maybe next time it would be a good idea to run spell check a little more thoroughly.

Your blogs will be checked regularly by teachers, and if need be, your blog address will be supplied to your parents/guardians so that they can also monitor your work.

Make sure that your work is up to your best possible standard!
